analysis of multiaxial vibration
The runout of rotating parts such as spindles in machine tools (milling machines and lathes, for example) causes multiaxial vibration. These oscillations directly impair the manufacturing and process accuracy because of imprecision in movement and positioning between tool and work pieces. This leads to lower quality and a faster wear off. For machine tool optimization, a non-contact laser interferometer determines the vibrations in amplitude and frequency. The position data of a vibration measurement may be used for an active vibration compensation to increase the quality of products and processes. The high bandwidth laser interferometers IDS3010 measure up to MHz frequencies and large amplitudes of vibrations. Due to its small sensor heads and contactless measurement scheme, it is flexible enough for measurements directly on machine tools’ components such as bearings, engines, gears, or spindles to give distinct information about their composition, attributes and the manufacturing process. By comparing the vibration behavior with a defined benchmark, laser based vibration analysis can be used as a non-contact and non-destructive method to identify damages, loose components, and imbalances. This makes the interferometer to a perfect tool for in-line inspection.
