Microscopy

The origin of microscopy arises from the constant desire to see and understand our environment on length scales much smaller than the human eye can resolve. The discovery of scanning probe microscopy extended the field of properties that can be investigated much further than classic optical imaging. Nowadays scientists image a plethora of different physical properties at ambient conditions down to nanometer resolution.

 

But many of the most exciting phenomena of the condensed matters are revealed at extreme conditions. From magnetic force to confocal microscopy, from milli-Kelvin to tens of tesla, attocube’s microscopes and modular scanning probe platforms are used to perform the newest measurements and develop new cutting edge techniques.

Metrology

Condensed Matter

Freely tunable parameters such as temperature or magnetic field are most powerful tools in condensed matters research. Most of the ground breaking phenomena discovered during the last century were first observed at low temperature or high magnetic field. Studying bulk electronic or magnetic properties as a function of temperature are every day practice.

 

Researchers use attocube’s one of a kind products to add scanning probe microscopy to the list of these measurements. With these instruments they are the firsts to image the newest exotic phases or transitions that only exist at low temperature or high magnetic fields and therefore unreachable for any other instrument.

Material Science

The masters of new materials. Material scientists need tools that allows them to quickly characterize and understand new materials at both, bulk and microscopic scale. They use attocube’s easy to use, modular scanning probe systems that enable them to image local microscopic properties on the nanometer scale at low temperature and high magnetic field. This allows them to understand the microscopic properties of phases and material properties that were only accessible for bulk measurements previously.

Extreme Conditions

Whether it’s ultra high vacuum, mK temperature, or high magnetic field, attocube offers microscopes, positioners, or position sensing systems that can operate at these environments. We use highest quality materials and extensive quality checks to ensure that all of our instruments work at extreme conditions just as well as at ambient.

Cryogenic Research

Performing measurements as close to the absolute zero point in temperature as possible is a critical challenge in many research fields. However, the classic “tool” for reaching ultra-low temperatures, liquid Helium, is becoming a rare and expensive resource. attocube has an answer to both of these challenges. attocube not only builds positioners that work on the nanometer range at milli-Kelvin temperature, but also cryogen-free cryostats with exceptionally low vibration, easy to use interfaces to support both the pioneers and everyday users of this important field.

Photonics / Laser

Quantum cryptography, photonic circuits, quantum teleportation, are just a few keywords from the emerging subject of quantum information technology. As in most cases in solid state physics many of the exciting new phenomena are discovered at extreme conditions. attocube developed several unique instruments such as the photonic integrated circuit analyzer, designed for the specific need of the quantum optics community to allow the researchers to focus on the science.
