The Center for NanoScience (CeNS), established in 1998, aims to stimulate and support interdisciplinary research in all areas of nanoscience, combining physics, chemistry, biochemistry and life sciences. CeNS is a working group based at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU)  in Munich, Germany. CeNS members and affiliates research both at the LMU and at other scientific institutions as well as in industrial laboratories. They cooperate in a horizontal network that lives from their voluntary commitment, supported by a small coordinating team .

By 1970 the semiconductor industry had been building momentum for at least a decade. Yet the companies supplying the equipment and materials that made possible the miniature wonders known as “chips” were all but invisible. The newly emerging industry was tiny then – only a few million dollars in global revenues – but a handful of visionary leaders came together to create a forum to shine the spotlight on equipment and materials suppliers. The resulting organization was called Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Institute, but was best known as SEMI®.

The Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft e. V. (DPG) – Germany Physical Society – is the world's eldest and largest physical association (more than 50.000 members). The names of the members seem to be a Who is Who in Physics – even nowadays and in the past. Amongst their ancient presidents you will find numerous famous scientists like Max Planck and Albert Einstein. DPG as a Friendly Society does not have any economic interests.

IVAM is an international association of companies and institutes in the field of microtechnology. IVAM is the communicative bridge between suppliers and users of microtechnology products and services. At present 167 companies and institutes from eight European countries, Korea, Japan and the United States are IVAM members.

The mission of the association is to build a platform for the cluster nanotechnology. The main target is to promote innovations in nanotechnology by bundling a wide range of actions. Technically seen that is the support in research and development activities as well as in application tasks. An additional goal is to incorporate the basics of nanotechnology in the teaching curriculum at schools and universities in order to increase the interest of alumni in continuing this type of education and to further advance nanotechnology in high tech. A major task of this association is to establish and to promote nanotechnology in society and economy. A network foundation is initiated to contract regional, national and international partnerships for the promotion of nanotechnology.
